One-year-old Harry Studley remains critically ill in hospital after suffering a serious head injury.
Two people have been charged after a one-year-old boy was shot with what police believe to have been an air rifle.
Police were called to a flat in Bishport Avenue in the Hartcliffe area of Bristol shortly after 4pm on Friday after neighbours reported hearing a child "screaming and screaming".
The child, who has been named as Harry Studley, is now in a critical condition with a serious head injury at Bristol Children's Hospital.
His parents, Amy Allen and Edward Studley, said: "We very much appreciate the help and support of our family, friends and local community at this very difficult time.
"We are concentrating our focus on our son Harry's recovery and would appreciate if we could have our privacy respected in order to allow us to do so."
Police said Jordan Walters, 24, and Emma Jane Horseman, 23, of Bishport Avenue, have been charged with causing grievous bodily harm.
A police spokesman said: "Harry Studley remains in a critical condition in Bristol Children's Hospital with a serious head injury after being shot by a pellet discharged from an air weapon.
"We've now charged two people in relation to the incident.
"They have been remanded in custody ahead of their appearance before magistrates."
